Description
A signed book by Australian Grandmaster Ian Rogers.
A tribute written to help celebrate the Australian/Swiss chess player on his 80th birthday.
This limited edition print run of 100 copies reveals a life well lived and a curiosity about chess that still lingers. The author has wisely provided a number of intriguing chess problems composed by Wettsein which are fiendishly difficult to solve.
He played Portisch on board 1 of the Lidums Australian Open in 1971. All the other GM games were from opens, not simuls. Wettstein was a very serious player between about 1970 and 1974. All of these are expertly annotated and reveal an understanding of the positions rather than displaying endless computer variations.
There are plenty of photos to reveal the characters behind the chess stories and we are introduced to his wife Carla Wettstein who sounds impressive and represented Switzerland at the Chess Olympiad.
Rogers has been busy writing books in recent years with the acclaimed Terrey Shaw, Australian Chess Ironman and Rogers’ Practical Endgame Guide.
Softback, 86 pages.
